PTE Test Centres in Sydney: Locations and What to Expect on Test Day

By Sydney PTE Academy, teaching PTE in Sydney since 2015 · Updated 17 October 2026

Short answer: Sydney’s main PTE test centres are Pearson’s own centres in the CBD and in Parramatta, plus partner centres that the booking tool shows when you search. Every centre runs the same test, scored the same way, so choose the one you can reach easily and calmly on the day.

This guide covers where you can sit PTE Academic in Sydney, how to choose a centre, and exactly what happens from the moment you walk in.

PTE test centres in Sydney

Pearson runs its own test centres, called Pearson Professional Centers. In Sydney these are listed at:

Centre Address
Pearson Professional Centers, Sydney CBD Level 2, 10 Bridge Street, Sydney NSW 2000
Pearson Professional Centers, Parramatta Level 5, 31 Macquarie Street, Parramatta NSW 2150

Pearson also works with partner test centres, and centres open, move or close from time to time. Before you book, search for your suburb in Pearson’s booking tool to see every current option and its available dates.

Does the test centre affect your score?

No. PTE Academic is scored by the same automated system wherever you sit it. The questions, timing and scoring rules are identical across centres.

What a centre can affect is how you feel on the day. A long trip, a rushed arrival or trouble finding the building all add stress before you have answered a single question. That is why travel time matters more than anything else when you choose.

How to choose a PTE test centre

  • Travel time. Pick the centre you can reach most easily at the time of your session. Do a practice trip if you have never been there.
  • Available dates. If your nearest centre has no seats on the date you need, another Sydney centre may.
  • Time of day. Book a session at the time you usually perform best. If you study in the evenings, an early morning test may not suit you.
  • Reviews. Students often search for reviews of a centre. Read them for practical details such as building access, but remember the test itself is the same everywhere.

What happens on PTE test day

  1. Arrive early. Check in takes time, so plan to arrive well before your appointment.
  2. ID check. Staff check your passport against your booking. The names must match exactly.
  3. Photo and palm vein scan. These confirm your identity for the test and for your score report.
  4. Locker. Phones, bags, watches and notes go into a locker. You cannot bring them into the test room.
  5. Seat and headset. You are taken to a computer with a headset and microphone, and given an erasable note board and pen.
  6. The test. About 2 hours in total: Speaking and Writing first, then Reading, then Listening.

The one thing that surprises most students: noise

Other test takers in the room will be speaking into their microphones at the same time as you. Some start before you, some after, and you will hear them through your headset.

This is normal and happens at every centre. The students who lose marks are the ones who let it throw them off. Three habits help:

  • Adjust your microphone during the microphone check so it sits close to your mouth, not touching it.
  • Start speaking straight after the tone. Long pauses at the start of a speaking task can end your recording early.
  • Practise with background noise in the weeks before your test, for example with a radio on quietly in the room.

A test day checklist

  • Passport, with the same name as your booking
  • Confirmation email with your centre address and time
  • Your route planned, with a buffer for delays
  • Water and a light meal beforehand
  • A final warm up: read a short paragraph aloud before you leave home, or do a few Read Aloud practice questions

Before you book: check you are ready

The cheapest PTE attempt is the one you only sit once. Before you pay the test fee, take a full mock test on PTE Practice Hub, the free practice platform built by our teachers. If your mock scores are already at your target, book. If not, a few weeks of focused preparation will save you a second fee.

Why practise on a platform built by a PTE academy

A practice platform is only as useful as its understanding of how PTE is actually scored. PTE Practice Hub was built by Sydney PTE Academy’s teachers, who have coached PTE students every week since 2015 and see first hand which habits cost marks on test day. Generic practice sites built by software companies, with no teaching behind them, cannot draw on that experience.

  • All 22 question types, scored instantly on the 10 to 90 scale and built on the official PTE scoring criteria
  • 5 full mock tests that follow the real test structure
  • Tips after every answer, written by teachers who see these mistakes in class every week
  • Free, with a direct line to a real teacher when you get stuck
