PTE Course Fees in Sydney: What You Should Pay in 2026
By Sydney PTE Academy, teaching PTE in Sydney since 2015 · Updated 17 October 2026
Short answer: PTE preparation in Sydney ranges from free self study to several hundred dollars for a structured course or private coaching. The price on its own tells you little. What matters is how many hours of live teaching you get, how many students share the teacher, and whether someone actually corrects your speaking and writing.
This guide explains what you are paying for, what to compare, and how to work out which option is worth it for you.
The real cost of PTE: the test fee comes first
Before comparing courses, remember the test itself costs around $490 in Australia, and every extra attempt costs the full fee again. A student who sits the test 3 times has spent close to $1,500 on test fees alone.
That is the number to keep in mind. Good preparation is usually cheaper than a repeat attempt, and poor preparation is expensive even when it looks cheap.
The three ways to prepare, and what each costs
| Option | Typical cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Self study with free tools | Free | Strong English, disciplined learners, small score gaps |
| Small group course | A few hundred dollars | Students who need strategy for every section and regular feedback |
| Private 1 on 1 coaching | Charged by the hour | One weak section, a close test date, or a plateau after another course |
Self study
Free practice is a real option. Our PTE Practice Hub covers all 22 question types with instant scoring and 5 full mock tests, at no cost. What self study cannot give you is a teacher who hears why your Read Aloud loses marks or why your essay scores low on development.
Small group courses
A course gives you a structure and strategy for every task type. The thing to check is class size. In a 3 hour class of 20 students, each student gets only a few minutes of speaking practice with feedback. In a class of fewer than 10, you get several times more.
Private coaching
1 on 1 sessions cost more per hour but waste none of it. They are usually the fastest route when one section is holding you back while the rest are fine.
What our courses cost
As an example of what is included at each price point, these are Sydney PTE Academy’s current fees. All classes run live on Zoom.
| Course | What you get | Price |
|---|---|---|
| PTE Express Course | 2 weeks, 12 hours of live small group classes, fewer than 10 students | $389 |
| PTE Advanced Course | 4 weeks: the Express Course plus 4 private 1 on 1 sessions | $688 |
| Supreme 1 on 1 Sessions | Private 1 hour sessions in packages of 3, 5 or 7 | $265, $425 or $575 |
Every option includes the slides, cheat sheets and practice material, with nothing extra to buy. Sessions are recorded so you can review them.
7 questions to ask before you pay for any PTE course
- How many students are in each class? Fewer than 10 is a good sign. Above 15, speaking practice gets thin.
- Is it live or pre-recorded? Recorded videos are fine for theory, but they cannot correct you.
- How many hours of live teaching are included? Compare the price per live hour, not the headline price.
- Who marks your essays and speaking? A teacher, an AI tool, or nobody?
- Is everything included? Check whether mock tests, materials or essay marking cost extra.
- Does the course cover the current test format? PTE Academic changed in August 2025, so older materials may be out of date.
- What do recent reviews say? Look for reviews that mention score improvements, not just friendly teachers.
Be careful with these offers
- Guaranteed scores. No provider controls your result. A guarantee usually means the fine print does the work.
- “Real exam questions”. Pearson takes test security seriously. Prepare with practice material, not leaked content.
- Certificates without sitting the test. These are scams. Only Pearson issues PTE score reports, and you can only get one by sitting the test.
Which option is worth it for you?
- Within 5 to 10 points of your target, solid English: a short group course, or self study plus a few 1 on 1 sessions.
- 15 points or more to go, or new to PTE: a longer course that combines strategy with language work, such as the Advanced Course.
- One section stuck while the others are fine: private sessions focused only on that section.

Why practise on a platform built by a PTE academy
A practice platform is only as useful as its understanding of how PTE is actually scored. PTE Practice Hub was built by Sydney PTE Academy’s teachers, who have coached PTE students every week since 2015 and see first hand which habits cost marks on test day. Generic practice sites built by software companies, with no teaching behind them, cannot draw on that experience.
- All 22 question types, scored instantly on the 10 to 90 scale and built on the official PTE scoring criteria
- 5 full mock tests that follow the real test structure
- Tips after every answer, written by teachers who see these mistakes in class every week
- Free, with a direct line to a real teacher when you get stuck
Want a teacher to tell you exactly where you are losing marks?
Send us your latest PTE scores, your target and your test date on WhatsApp. A teacher will reply with the option that fits you. We teach live on Zoom, so you can join from anywhere in Australia.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a PTE course cost in Sydney?

Is a PTE course worth the money?
Usually, if it saves you a second attempt. Each PTE test costs around $490, so a course that gets you to your target first time often pays for itself.
Is 1 on 1 PTE coaching better than a group class?
It depends on your gap. Group classes cover every section efficiently. Private coaching is faster when one section is holding you back.
Can I prepare for PTE for free?
Yes. Free tools like the PTE Practice Hub cover all 22 question types with instant scoring and full mock tests. Many students combine free practice with a few coaching sessions.
